Position Description

As a Surgical Simulation Data Scientist, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities: 

  • Collaborate with management and cross-functional teams to help define the direction Surgical Simulation projects
  • Identify what data is available and relevant, and make suggestions for new data collection methods
  • Write and implement data mining and machine learning algorithms on large sets of data
  • Build mathematical models to understand user data
  • Design experiments, test hypotheses and build predictive models
  • Communicate project updates, issues and opportunities to management and cross-functional teams
  • Create project plans and timelines
  • Conduct code reviews and follow proper software development procedures

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • A minimum of a 4 year degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience working as a data scientist in academia or industry
  • Excellent problem-solving skills in areas of probability, statistics and applied mathematics
  • Experience with a variety of data mining and machine learning techniques, such as classification, clustering and natural language processing
  • Proficiency with Java, C++ or Python.
  • A working understanding of relational databases and database architecture
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred

The following skills and attributes are preferred:

  • Experience with Apache Hadoop, Spark and Storm
  • Understanding of Linux
  • Experience with data visualization tools
  • Capability with Unit Test code for robustness, usability and reliability
  • Experience in a leadership or mentoring role
